Menstrual cup CYCLO

What is the menstrual cup?

The menstrual cup is a method of feminine hygiene to use internally when a woman is menstruating. As its name indicates, it is shaped like a cup, with a little ball or handle on the bottom. To insert it into your vagina, it folds thanks to its flexible material and once inside your body it springs open regaining its original shape.

The big difference with tampons is that instead of absorbing your blood, the cup only collects it, so it does not cause dryness or irritation. It is a reusable product that lasts an average of 10 years. It is made with hypoallergenic medical silicone so it is suitable for your body and it does not cause infections or allergies.

For how long can I wear the cup?

CYCLO menstrual cup can be used for up to 12 hours in a row. This will depend on your
menstrual flow. If you bleed quite a lot, it is likely that on the first day it won't last 12 hours.
However, after a day or two of heavy bleeding, most women can wear it for up to 12 hours. If you wear it longer than 12 hours, nothing will happen since using the cup is not related to Toxic Shock Syndrome, but for hygiene reasons, it is not recommended to wear it longer than 12 hours.

How do I know when I have to change my menstrual cup?

Using the menstrual cup is a learning process. Not only will you learn to use the
cup, but also you will learn how to listen to your body and its signals. In the beginning,
you can change your cup every 4 or 5 hours to check how much it has filled up. You'll notice that the cup has some lines inside to measure its capacity. You can use those lines as a measuring guide. Later on, you will learn how your body works and when it is time to change it.

Can I wear it when I'm sleeping?

It's perfectly safe since you can wear it for up to 12 hours. If your bleeding is very heavy on the first day, you may have to change it before.

Can I wear it while swimming or playing other sports?

Totally. In fact, the cup is the most comfortable and hygienic system for sports.
It holds your bleeding perfectly without spotting or moving. Nobody will notice it and it does not come into contact with water as do tampons through the string.

What is the menstrual cup made of?

CYCLO menstrual cup is made of 100% hypoallergenic medical silicone. It is the same material that is used in joint prostheses and heart valves. It does not contain dyes, bleaches or dioxins.

What size should I choose?

Choosing the size of your cup depends on your age and whether you have had children or not.  As a woman grows older, her vagina muscles lose smoothness.

Our recommendation for choosing a size is as follows:

  • S : For girls under 18 who have not had sex.
  • M: For women under 30 who have not had a vaginal birth.
  • L: For women who have had vaginal birth or older than 30.

If you are 30 years old, we recommend that you choose size L since, with the appropriate care, it will last for the next 10 years.

What capacity and measure does the CYCLO cup have?

I had a baby a few months ago, can I use the cup?

This is an issue that varies depending on every woman. It is best to ask your gynecologist. Using the cup or not will depend on whether you have recovered the strength of your pelvic floor. If you are not ready yet, it's possible that the muscles of your vagina are not strong enough and the cup slides down your vaginal canal. It’s all a matter of time.

I'm a virgin, can I use the cup?

Virginity is a cultural-related concept that depends on the socio-cultural context in which we live. When asked, can my hymen be broken by using the cup? The answer is that size S cup is small enough to be worn comfortably by any young woman who has not had sex. Hymen is a flexible tissue that varies in shape depending on every woman. Sometimes, the hymen can be broken with a sudden movement, a fall or when playing sports such as riding a bicycle or riding a horse. This involuntary tearing of the hymen does not mean a loss of virginity, in the same sense as when having sexual relations with penetration.

How to insert the menstrual cup?

You need to fold the cup before inserting it. You can do it in a flower-shaped, C-shaped or S-shaped way. In this video you can clearly see different ways of folding it:

How to remove the menstrual cup?

To remove the menstrual cup, you need to insert your fingers a little bit between the lips
of your vagina, where you'll find the ball or cup handle. Once located, you should move your fingers until you feel the lines that mark the end of the cup. Press and move the cup side to side so that air can enter through the top and make it easier to remove it.
We do not recommend removing it only by pulling the ball, as this will create a 'vacuum' effect that can be uncomfortable and even painful. The trick is to remain calm and move the cup horizontally from side to side to give air some space.

Sometimes, especially if you wear it to sleep, you may find that the cup is located very high in your vaginal canal, and it can be a bit complicated to grab it with two fingers. In this case, just wait a bit: have breakfast first, wait some time so that the cup lowers naturally until it is in the ideal position to remove it.

It is very important to always remind yourself aloud the following: 'I know that the cup always, always comes out, I'm not worried because just as it has entered, I know it will come out.' It seems silly, but especially at first, your nerves and inexperience may unintentionally make you contract the muscles of your vagina and make it harder to remove the cup. It’s just a matter of practice. Be patient!

How to clean the menstrual cup

Every month, before your menstrual cycle starts, it is essential to sterilize the cup in boiling water. It is enough to place your menstrual cup in boiling water for 3 minutes. Do not leave it any longer as it could burn or deteriorate easily. You don't need a specific container, any saucepan will do. Keep in mind that the cup must already be clean when you put it in the saucepan. You will only sterilize it, so there should be no remains of menstruation in the saucepan.

During your menstruation, every time you empty your cup, it is enough to rinse it with cold water. Keep in mind that the air-holes in the top of the cup have to be perfectly clean. You can fill the cup up with water and press it against the palm of your hand so that the holes are unobstructed.
